July Lecture to go ahead announces Chairman in May Newsletter

Dear Friends

I am writing to let you all know that the TASWE committee is working hard to keep our society alive for you during this period of lockdown.

Theydon Bois Village Hall is hoping to re-open its doors on 1st July with a maximum capacity of 60 people and many restrictions.  We have therefore decided to hold our planned July meeting on ‘Impressionists in Their Gardens’ by Caroline Holmes on Zoom.  This on-line presentation will enable you to enjoy listening and watching in the safety and comfort of your own home.  It is scheduled for broadcast on Wednesday 1st July at 11.00.  You will be sent an email with a code which you click on just before 11.00.  If you are unable to access Zoom but do have internet access and cannot get any help from family or friends please contact one of the committee listed on your programme card. We hope to resume our live lectures in Theydon Bois Village Hall on 3rd September 2020 when we have Dr Neil Faulkner FSA coming to give us his illustrated lecture on Gertrude Bell.  If there are still restrictions in place we are hoping to have this lecture both live in TBVH and on Zoom.

We are sorry that you have had to miss so many of our meetings and we have decided to refund the cost of the lectures you will have missed so that membership renewal to existing members this summer will be £35 and £43 for new members. Audrey Carson will be sending out membership renewal letters to you soon and for this year you will be given the option to pay your subscription via internet banking if you find that easier.  We do hope that you will renew to keep our society alive, friendly and fun.  All of the lectures we have had to cancel have been re-booked for 2021.

Lis Goodwin is having discussions about the September holiday to Winchester and will be in contact with those concerned shortly.  We are also working on some alternative social ideas in place of the visits.  If any if you have been working on a creative project during lockdown please do send a photo and description to Ian Locks at i.locks@icloud.com and we shall have a display on our website: www.theartssocietywestessex.org and will display the results on our screen presentation at our future meetings.  I do recommend you look up our website if you have not already. Valerie and Ian Locks have been busy updating the content.  They have added links to various interesting lectures etc. chosen by us which you can enjoy from home.  The Arts Society website is also offering some very good lectures on their ‘connected’ site. This will be available to all until September after which it will only be available to paid up members.  Many of us have particularly enjoyed the lecture on Turner and the new Twenty Pound Note by Arts Society Accredited lecturer, Nicola Moorby.

Best wishes to all our members.  We hope you are keeping safe and well and and please don’t hesitate to contact your committee if you have any questions or concerns.
